Adapting computer games for the big screen has never seemed like a very good idea. If you disagree then clearly you haven't seen the films of Super Mario Bros. or Street Fighter.
However, if there was one series that could make the transition, it was the Resident Evil franchise. After all, the games are so indebted to cinematic conventions that it would take little effort to reverse the process. So we come to Paul WS Anderson's (not the Magnolia guy) Resident Evil movie, and guess what? Sure, it's very silly, doesn't have quite enough zombie gore and makes very little sense, but it's still an entertaining and stylish ride. Young amnesiac (Milla Jovovich) teams up with some commandos to discover what is going on in a secret underground base full of zombies. It might make no sense but Jovovich kicks ass and the action never lets up. Couple this with a suitably apocalyptic sequel-baiting finale and you've got some fine disposable entertainment.
