    Picture

In order to give the movie a suitably out-of-this-world look, the location footage has undergone a serious amount of digital processing and treatment. Add the constant use of the aliens' distorted b&w point-of-view and you have a particularly tricky movie to capture accurately on any home viewing format. Fortunately, the 2.35:1 anamorphic transfer does a good job of handling it. There are occasional moments of grain and minor traces of dot crawl, but mostly, the disc copes admirably with this tricky movie.

    Sound

If the image occasionally falters, the Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack certainly doesn't. The opening crash sequence surrounds you with the chaos of a spaceship hurtling out of control, before hitting the ground with enough bass to shake the plaster loose from your ceiling. Then you get alien critters jumping at you from all over your room and perfectly measured dialogue and music separation. Sadly the slightly superior DTS track which featured on the US release is absent.

    Extras

The additional material here is identical to the Region 1 release. You get two very interesting and informative commentaries commentaries, a 5min Making of... featurette, coverage of the Raveworld Event used to promote the release of the film, theatrical trailers, production notes, and cast and crew information.

    Verdict

One of the most entertaining sci-fi/ horror hybrids of recent years arrives on a truly spectacular disc
