What is the Mio MiVue 658 WIFI?
If you’ve ever been driving along the road minding your own business when all of a sudden another vehicle performs a manoeuvre so dangerous that they really should be reported or you have been a victim of a crash for cash scam artist but you had nothing to show as proof, then what really would have saved the day is a Dash Cam.
The modern Dash Cam has a huge amount to offer, especially for those wanting to record their driving for all to see on YouTube in glorious HD. Gone are the days of grainy, low quality footage that when viewed back you struggle to even make out the road let alone a number plate. The latest Dash Cams usually have Full HD recording and some are now pushing this further with 4K 60FPS. The top brands tend to come fully featured with G-Sensors, GPS, WiFi and even dual lenses for recording any rear action.
One such model we have for review which looks to tick all the right boxes is from Mio Technology. Their MiVue 658 WIFI offers an excellent range of features including ‘Extreme’ HD 2304 x 1296P 30FPS recording, 2.7” Touchscreen Display, G sensor, GPS and even WiFi connectivity to immediately send videos to your Smartphone or share to the world via the MiVue app. Priced at around £150 it’s very much in the higher end Dash Cam market and on paper the features seem to justify that price. Watch our in-depth video review and see how this Dash Cam fares as we put it through its paces.

Mio MiVue 658 Video Review
MiVue Manager
Once connected to a PC (using your own cable as the MiVue 658 doesn't come with one) you can view the recorded videos using your normal software or alternatively you can use the MiVue Manager which is available as a free download.
This will show additional information such as the speed, direction, altitude, co-ordinates and even the level of G-Force at the time. Plus you get an easy to use calendar display of your videos along with options to take a screenshot and a simple one click method of uploading the videos direct to Facebook or YouTube.

- Windscreen mount could be more user friendly
Mio MiVue 658 WIFI Dash Cam Video Review
The Mio MiVue 658 WIFI at £150 (currently available for just £120 online) is an all-round excellent performer. It’s not the cheapest of Dash Cams out there but then, the features and specification are more than a match for the price. With an excellent quality of video and audio recording, together with very useful features such as Safety Camera Warnings (with free lifetime updates), Parking Mode and Integrated WIFI it should offer everything you need in a dash cam.
The only slight negatives we found were that the menu system was occasionally very slow and didn’t respond to touch immediately and it does start automatically recording far too quickly, which when you are trying to set it up and look through the menus can be a tad annoying. The windscreen mount is also a little too fiddly with the cable integrated through the mount meaning it isn’t the easiest to remove and store away very quickly.
But these negatives are very minor in relation to the excellent overall performance and features we found with the MiVue 658 WIFI. We had no major issues through our testing and found it to offer everything we needed in a Dash Cam. As such this is certainly worthy of consideration and an easy winner of an AVForums Recommended award.
