    Picture

Well, we are hardly talking cutting edge DVD transfers here, are we?

But, that said, the image for Michelle's training programme is perfectly watchable - good or bad thing, you decide. The full-screen picture is soft and fuzzy, but all the essentials are clear to see. Colours aren't exactly a strong point, with the pink top visible beneath Michelle's black tracksuit during the early sequences looking over-saturated and smeary. No, don't laugh - I wasn't being personal. If anything, the contrast seems too high and the whole thing has a horrible sort of airbrushed quality to it that may suit someone who isn't too demanding.

Whilst there is no pixilation that I saw, and the image is clear enough in close-ups, the second that the camera pulls back a few feet, the pair become a blur. Mind you, the exercises themselves are so big and obvious that is doesn't matter how indistinct the middle ground gets, you're not going to miss anything.

    Sound

Again, the transfer for the audio isn't going to set the world on fire. This is light and breezy and comes across without any hiss or distortion but, if anything, it lacks the kind of pizzazz that many fitness DVDs possess. Then again, the emphasis is on the workout and the techniques involved, so the hot and active, vibrant approach of say, Jennifer Ellison, wouldn't really be appropriate. Dax needs to get his instructions across and the soft pop backing music doesn't interfere.

    Extras

In the full retail copy you will find a booklet to accompany the workout detailing the diet and the routines. This PR disc didn't come with it, though. On the DVD itself, there are no extra features. But hey, but I'm just thanking my lucky stars that it didn't contain any of Michelle's pop videos!

    Verdict

Another entry in the endless fitness DVD market, but one that will certainly work if taken seriously. Something to think about is this though - these things aren't really for the benefit of the celebrities bouncing about in them. It's the trainers who are getting to ply their trade to a wider clientele who gain the most. They are getting paid and they're advertising as well. Good work if you can get it. Anyway, the routines contained here definitely worked for Michelle McManus so, if you need to shed some pounds, this is a good place to start. Just remember ... fitness is for life, not just for Christmas. So if you buy this disc, don't ignore it after a day or so. Overall, I will give this a 7 out of 10 because it means well, its message is a good one and the results are plain for all to see.

Right, now let's get back to some movies. Or, then again, maybe I could place an order for Jennifer Ellison's DVD ... for the sake of educational comparison, you understand.
