Marilyn Monroe: The Collection Volume 1 DVD Review
    SRP: £39.99

These movies, wisely, have not been colourised. Instead we have a strangely clear transfer for We're not Married and a more dirty one for Love Nest. This may be because Love nest is a year older, or the dirt in 'Married is more even, but the differences are plain. Neither is good, but then it's to be expected. However, as this is a fairly major release, extolling the virtues of Monroe, then surely some form of cleanup could have been under taken?

Not bad, if you can get past some unnecessary musical dubbing. Much like the Shirley Temple movies, these have a dialogue bias which makes most other sound seem recessed, in comparison. Again, as the technology wasn't around for really good sound, this compromise is a good one.

    There are none.
Marilyn Monroe: The Collection Volume 1 Extras

Despite what I said about Marilyn Monroe, she does seem to have acknowledged the Hollywood machine as it was and still is. To quote: “In Hollywood a girl's virtue is much less important than her hairdo. You're judged by how you look, not by what you are. Hollywood's a place where they'll pay you a thousand dollars for kiss, and fifty cents for your soul. I know, because I turned down the first offer often enough and held out for the fifty?” With insightful comments like that and her biography being what it is I find it astonishing that there are no extras. Fox, what do you think you're playing at? A few documentaries; some celebs talking of her influences; who was she on the phone to when she died? - would have made this set much more palatable. As it stands, though, Marilyn Monroe Collection Vol1 seems underwhelming.
