    Lilo & Stitch DVD Review
    SRP: £19.99

    Picture

We always expect Disney to come up with something a little bit special when it comes to their DVD transfers, and thankfully Lilo & Stitch is just as impressive as anything else they have put out. The first thing that grabs you about this anamorphic 1.85:1 transfer is its skill with colours, which look vivid without ever going over the top. We are also pleased to report that the picture suffers from no nasty electronic artefacting, even on background surfaces. For proof, have a look at the underwater credit sequence with its expanse of gorgeous blue ocean - no crawl, no nothing.

    Sound

Presented in both DD and DTS 5.1 (unlike the R1 disc, and with bonus THX Optimiser), the sonics are just as pleasing as the visuals. Audio effects sound wonderfully tactile and close to the ear, while the surround speakers help to create a lively and involving atmosphere. The loudest applause has to go to the soundtrack's skill with music - whether it is Alan Silvestri's big and bassy score or Lilo's massive collection of Elvis records.

    Extras

Special features are both informative and unusual. Start at the top of the extras list and you'll find a tour around Hawaii hosted by Lilo and her sister, a hula lesson, a Create Your Own Alien Experiment game, as well as footage of Stitch muscling his way into some Walt Disney classics. Add to this behind-the-scenes footage, animation and production design featurettes, deleted scenes, music videos and a veritable smorgasbord of trailers for other Disney-type stuff and you have got yourself a winner.

    Verdict

One of the most original feature-length animation films in years, with a disc that presents it admirably.
