  • The LG OLED65C9 is the entry-level Alpha 9 Gen 2 4K OLED TV from the manufacturer, and is joined by the E9 and W9 models, both of which are identical in terms of picture quality but offer different cosmetics and sound options when compared to the C9.

The 65C9 uses the same panel as the 2018 models but adds a new filter. It also includes all the features that LG has to offer in 2019, including the Alpha 9 Gen 2 processor, ThinQ AI smart features, and High Dynamic Range support (HDR10, Hybrid Log-Gamma, and Dolby Vision with dynamic metadata).

The C9 includes HDMI 2.1 connections, allowing the TV to support High Frame Rates (HFR) such as 4K at 120fps. There's also support for Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC), allowing the TV to send lossless object-based audio such as Dolby Atmos and DTS:X back via HDMI ARC.

LG has also added support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and Automatic Low Latency Mode (ALLM), which is great news for gamers. In fact about the only feature the current LG line-up doesn't support is HDR10+.

The Alpha 9 Gen 2 processor includes OLED Motion Pro, an upgraded black frame insertion system which now operates at 100/120Hz for a shorter black frame cycle. This should eliminate flicker and maintain brightness, while LG has also added a separate decontouring control.

The ThinQ AI features include an audio feature called ‘AI Sound’, which monitors the images on screen and adjusts and enhances the audio based on this. It will also be able to upconvert stereo to 5.1, as well as support Dolby Atmos. The speaker has been redesigned, with LG dropping the 'Alpine' stand in favour of one similar to the 2017 models.

Finally there's a new version (4.5) of webOS with voice assistance that has been expanded to include Amazon Alexa as well as Google Assistant. LG is also adding support for Apple's AirPlay 2 and HomeKit features.

LG hasn't announced any prices yet, but the 65C9 will be available in the spring.
