Dolby Vision on a massive scale
What is the LG 86UH9500?The 85-inch UH9500 sirs alongside the 65" HU9500 at the pinnacle of LG’s range of Ultra HD 4K LED TVs' LG is calling these TVs SUPER UHD TV, which has more than a ring of Samsung's naming for its premium range of TVs. As is the norm for a 2016 flasgship TV, the 65HU9500 boasts HDR (High Dynamic Range) capability, which includes Dolby Vision augmentation along with a high brightness panel, the capacity to display many more colours than standard televisions and it also sports webOS 3.0, the latest imagining of LG's Smart TV platform.
This is a preview of the upcoming 86UH9500 model and will be replaced with the full in-depth review as soon as we have measured and reviewed the final retail sample. In the meantime here is a run-down of the features we can expect to see.
UH9500 Picture Quality FeaturesHDR Plus is the technology that enables the UH9500 to show 4K HDR content in conjunction with ULTRA Luminance processing in the most advanced IPS panel out there. LG has created some new features and refined existing ones with the inclusion of both ‘True Black Panel,’ – to minimise reflections – and Contrast Maximiser, to give the impression of more depth and contrast by separating objects from their backgrounds. There’s also an SDR (Standard Dynamic Range)-to-HDR conversation engine and, to enhance colour reproduction, LG’s ColorPrime Plus magnifies the range of colours that can be displayed on the screen. There’s also support for BT.2020, the next-generation standard for broadcast and distribution, although the UH9500 is only claimed to hit about 90 of DCI which is a less expansive colour gamut.
Smart TV and Other SpecsLGwebOS 3.0 offers three particular features: Magic Zoom, Magic Mobile Connection and an upgraded Magic Remote. Magic Zoom enables users to magnify objects and letters without any degradation in picture quality. And with Magic Mobile Connection, users can connect a mobile phone to their LG SMART TV via the LG TV Plus App on their mobile device to access mobile apps on the TV screen. The upgraded Magic Remote is designed to make controlling set-top boxes (STB) easier with the addition of buttons on the remote. The Screen Remote feature has also been redesigned to simplify the user interface for less clutter and more convenience.
