LG 65SK9000 LED LCD 4K TV Preview
Can edge lighting handle a 65-inch screen size?
Although LG's emphasis is very much on OLED this year, their Super UHD LCD line-up for 2018 still looks very interesting. The mid-range SK9000 uses edge LED backlighting and comes in two screen sizes, the 55-inch 55SK9000 and the 65-inch 65SK9000.
This SK9000 uses a NanoCell IPS panel which is designed to deliver better colours and a wider viewing angle. It also uses the A7 processor found on the B7 OLED TV and, although based on the processor from last year, it gains the Technicolor HDR standard, along with existing support for Dolby Vision, HLG and HDR10.
Also new for 2018 is the AutoCal CalMAN calibration software by SpectraCal which should greatly aid the speed and accuracy of the setup possible with the SK9000 in the home. This has been combined with the ThinQ AI system which enables voice control integration with Google, Siri and Alexa allowing the 65SK9000 to become part of a network of voice controlled, interconnected items.
In physical terms, the SK9000 also looks very similar to both the higher-end SK9500 and the B7 OLED, with a curved stand, silver finish and a slimline and elegant design. The SK9000 is also feature-packed in audio terms and boasts on-board support for Dolby Atmos.
