Jeepers Creepers 2: DTS Edition DVD Review
PictureBeing a recent movie the 2.35:1 Non-Anamorphic transfer is a disgrace in this day and age. This edition may come with a DTS soundtrack but the image is unforgivable, it looks washed out and suffers from grey blacks and a lack of any fine details. Add it this edge enhancement which dogs the image throughout and we have one of the poorest examples of a DVD transfer I have seen since the format was established back in 1998. Enough said, avoid like the plague.
SoundMaking up for the lacklustre picture performance is the Dolby Digital 5.1 and on this R3 disc a DTS 5.1 soundtrack. We are treated to a nicely dynamic, wide and open sound stage which is capable of good bottom end extension. Surrounds are used well with many placement effects adding to the action on the screen, especially during the flying scenes where the creature surrounds the stranded bus.
Dialogue is crystal clear and intelligible and never gets drowned out by the tense score. Overall the sound mix adds to the feel of the movie with intelligent use made of the effects and LFE channels to create a very decent sound field. Comparing the two formats produces very little to separate the two with the DTS track just that little wider with a tighter feeling LFE channel, but certainly no night and day difference here.
ExtrasThere are no extras.
VerdictIt may have an excellent DTS track but the Non-Anamorphic transfer and lack of extras make this a definite no go! Avoid.
