Hisense H70NU9700 Ultra HD 4K HDR TV Preview

Hisense go Ultra HD Premium

by Steve Withers

What is the Hisense NU9700?

The Hisense NU9700 is the latest flagshipUltra HD 4K LCD TV from the Chinese manufacturer and it uses a flat 70-inch screen size with a full array LED backlight. The H70NU9700 adopts an attractive design and an excellent level of build quality. The NU9700 is the first Hisense TV to be certified as Ultra HD Premium by the UHD Alliance and includes support for High Dynamic Range.

Design

The design of the NU9700 is simple but attractive, with brushed metal finish and an excellent level of build quality. The TV uses a flat 70-inch screen and the stand uses feet at either end.

Features

Hisense have increased the peak brightness to 1,000 nits and the colour gamut to 85% of Rec. 2020, whilst in a first for Hisense the NU9700 has Ultra HD Premium certification. The TV uses a full array backlight with around 150 local dimming zones and will support High Dynamic Range, specifically HDR 10, and might also support Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG), although Hisense couldn't confirm that at CES. The TV includes HDMI inputs, with covers at the rear for tidier cable management, along with a dedicated game mode for both SDR and HDR games. There's also Amazon HDR and Netflix HDR, along Freeview Play. As with all the TVs launched at CES 2017, the NU9700 does not support 3D.

It goes without saying that the show floor at CES is hardly the ideal place to judge a TV's picture quality and we could never make an informed decision under such circumstances. We would obviously need to objectively test the TV in controlled circumstances and we will measure both the peak brightness and the size of the colour gamut in our actual review. Although the TV did look impressive at CES showing content specially chosen by Hisense, we will have to wait until our actual review to see how the NU9700 performs in reality. During our review of the H70NU9700 we will measure the greyscale and colour accuracy with both standard and high dynamic range content, as well as the black levels, the backlight uniformity, the off-axis performance, the peak brightness, the contrast ratios, the motion handling and the video processing.

Conclusion

Hisense H70NU9700 Ultra HD 4K HDR TV Preview

The Hisense H70NU9700 certainly looks like an interesting new model from the Chinese manufacturer. We were impressed by the Hisense TVs that we reviewed last year and the idea of them delivering a more premium TV at a competitive price is definitely interesting. The fact that the 70-inch UHD 4K TV uses a full array LED backlight and is Ultra HD Premium certified also gets our attention, as does the support of HDR 10 and possibly HLG. We also like LG's simple but effective Smart TV platform, as well as the design and build quality. We are looking forward to fully testing the NU9700 to establish if the picture quality matches the specifications. Hisense haven't confirmed pricing yet but the NU9700 should be available in the UK in late May or early June.
