Elton John: One Night Only-Greatest Hits Live DVD Review
PictureThe main concert footage is presented in 1.77:1 Anamorphic widescreen, and the bonus Videos are presented in 1.33:1 Full Frame. The concert footage is very disappointing and looks very soft indeed. The colours are over saturated and the amount of bloom from the concert lighting rig makes things look nasty. Skin tones are an orange colour with no fine detail on show. The video footage is some what better with good colour rendition and raised detail levels. Overall, as with most concert features the picture is not great, but with this disc it is very disappointing indeed.
SoundWith this being a live concert feature you would expect good sound, and that's exactly what you get. You have three options for sound, Dolby 2.0, Dolby Digital 5.1 and dts 5.1. The sheer dynamics of the tracks are very impressive indeed, with the dts track running away with the overall crown here. The clarity and detail is fantastic, with some serious bottom end, which is tight and fast. The multi channel mix is also very impressive with good use of the rear channels to create atmosphere and certain panning effects with percussion instruments. Compared with the picture, the sound is on another planet.
ExtrasIncluded in this package are a 17 page booklet covering the story of Elton John's career with some great photographs and interesting text. On the DVD we get 5 Music videos for 1. I want to love (feat.Robert Downey Jnr) 2. This Train Don't Stop There Anymore (feat Justin Timberlake). 3. Original Sin (feat.Mandy Moore & Elizabeth Taylor). 4. Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word (feat, Blue) 5. Original Sin (Dan-o-Rama Video Remix).
VerdictA great concert with exceptional dts sound, good extras, but disappointing picture quality.
