Chronicles Of Riddick, The (Unrated Edition) DVD Review
PicturePresented in 2.40:1 anamorphic widescreen the print looks stunning! There is a real blockbuster seen to proceedings and the image for the majority of the running time is sharp and clean. There are no signs of dirt or scratches on the print and very few digital artefacts seen apart from very slight edge enhancement. Colours are rich and well saturated and blacks are solid with good shadow detail on show. Overall a near reference quality print.
SoundAggressive and great fun, Riddick will push most systems even with no addition of a DTS track this time around. The Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack is demo quality with too many moments to list in a short review like this. Dialogue is intelligible and surrounds are used throughout creating an aggressive and enveloping soundstage. Excellent stuff!
ExtrasI found the extras on this edition of the movie as disappointing and can only conclude that another super duper special edition will be on the way soon. First up we have an audio commentary which features details on the production, actors and special effects, all of which are interesting. Next up is the deleted footage area with about 8 minutes of scenes with optional commentary, also included are the Riddick fact track which plays with the movie, a special effects featurette which runs at 6 minutes, Worlds of riddick is a look at the sets. Also included are trailers and X-box demo and a look at other Universal titles.
VerdictAlthough a little “flawed”, Chronicles is great Sci-Fi action fun with good DVD presentation and a handful of extras.
