    Behind Enemy Lines DVD Review
    SRP: £29.99

    Picture

The anamorphic 2.35:1 transfer on this disc is for all intents and purposes faultless. Edge-enhancement is barely noticeable, grain is completely absent and there's not a trace of artefacting or digital dot crawl. What you do get for your money is a luscious transfer, which makes the most of the bleak external location footage and the vibrant hues of explosions which often punctuate it. The detail levels are fantastically high throughout the film's running time, and picture fidelity is continually impressive.

    Sound

Thanks to 20th Century Fox, when you watch Behind Enemy Lines on DVD you get the choice of whether to listen to big things go bang in either Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS 5.1. Whichever option you go for, you're bound to be more than satisfied, as this is the kind of film where it seems like more time has been spent fine tuning the audio mix than working on the script. Which doesn't necessarily entail any criticism of the script. Spatial effects move around with blistering precision, and the subwoofer gets a good going-over in almost every shot in the film.

    Extras

A six minute promotional featurette, five extended and two deleted scenes with optional commentary, an animatic of the ejection sequence with optional commentary, a feature-length audio commentary by the director and editor, and a second commentary featuring the producers (both feature-length commentaries include English subtitle options - a rare, but much appreciated addition to a DVD)

    Verdict

Yes, it's bloody stupid and infuriating at times, but it's also reasonable brainless fun and the disc is an absolute cracker.
