Picture
The movie is presented in it's original 2.35:1 Anamorphic ratio and like most Columbia releases it looks very good indeed. The film starts in 1978 and uses a vivid colour palette that looks strong without any bleed or blooming, it has an orange tint that works in aging the look of the film. As we come up to the present day we see Sandler's character in an airport with his girlfriend and the colour palette changes to deep blues and has that modern cold look. The rest of the movie looks very good with excellent detail on show throughout especially when we are given close ups on faces. Every line and pore is visible and detailed. There are a few niggles with the print, some grain in darker scenes and some edge enhancement, but nothing to distract too much. The transfer is sharp and clear with everything looking natural and well defined and probably looks too good for this type of movie.
Sound
Presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 the soundtrack is more like a stereo mix to be honest with the film being dialogue driven with speech sounding natural and intelligible. There are some excellent surround moments to be had here and there when things get a little silly, with the music track benefiting from a nice dynamic edge, with plenty of LFE use. As you would expect with this kind of movie the soundtrack takes a back seat to what is actually going on with the story on screen. Nothing special but it does the job effectively enough.
Extras
Kicking the extras off is a commentary track featuring Director Peter Segal and Adam Sandler which is moderately entertaining. They discuss various scenes and point out their friends on set as well as discussing some finer points regarding the production, all of which is presented in a humorous manner, with only a few quiet gaps to be heard. Next we have 4 deleted scenes that are mildly entertaining and one features John McEnroe at an Anger Management meeting. Moving on there are two featurettes, one about Jack Nicholson and the other covering the making of the movie, both are rather forgettable, as is the interactive quiz and the Gag Reel. Rounding of the extras are trailers presented in anamorphic video and 5.1 sound, they include "Anger Management", "8 Crazy Nights", "As Good As It Gets", "Daddy Day Care", "SWAT", "Hollywood Homicide", "Mona Lisa Smile", "Mr. Deeds", "Radio" and "Peter Pan".
The movie is typical Sandler material and is amusing enough but not as good as it could have been and Columbia has provided a very good disc.
