ZTE announce Dolby Vision capable Android TV Box
Smart home integration forms major part of strategy
Home AV NewsZTE, best known for its exploits in the mobile device market, is the latest manufacturer to be given license to produce an Android TV set top box, the ZXV10 B860HV2, which supports Dolby Vision among other things.
The B860HV2 (they need a better product name) integrates an AMLogic 8-core CPU and is of course 4K Ultra HD capable, with replay of content up to 60 frames per second and support for 10-Bit colour and HDR 10.
It uses a Google Android TV system and Java virtual machine (JVM) to be compatible with Android applications, and integrates with ZTE’s Smart Home solution, which features Multi-Screen, HD Video Call, Family Album, Home IoT Network and Voice Assistant.
Other notable specs include 8GB Flash memory, 2GB RAM, 802.11AC 2T2R Wi-Fi wireless and RJ-45,10/100/1000M wired access as well as Bluetooth 5.0 support that enables Bluetooth remote and directional pad (D-PAD) connections.
Fang Hui, ZTE vice president, said that the B860HV2 has become an important part of the “ZTE Big Video Solution,” which helps consolidate its position in the global smart STB market.
It will be interesting to see how the B860HV2 stacks up against the competition, especially other Android TV-based boxes like the NVIDIA Shield TV, and whether ZTE has got to grips with the latest AMLogic processors which have proved a challenge to others in the sector, by all accounts.
