Yamaha introduce Six New MusicCast AV Products

Soundbars, amps, micro systems and wireless speakers

by Mark Hodgkinson Jul 7, 2016

  • As well as announcing the frankly astonishing Disklavier ‘Smart’ Piano, Yamaha has also detailed the launch of some more conventional new AV products as part of the MusicCast range.
First up is the YAS-306 MusicCast Soundbar, featuring AIR SURROUND XTREME technology and providing 7.1 channel surround sound. There’s also Bluetooth for wireless music streaming and AirPlay allows for wireless music playback from your iDevice or Mac. It also supports 192 kHz / 24-bit High Resolution Music (Flac / WAV / AIFF) and has a pair of built-in subwoofers and bass reflex ports for more low end presence. As is the way of things nowadays, there’s also the capability to control it using an app, in this case the MusicCast CONTROLLER for iOS and Android. It’s priced at £349.95 and will be available soon.

There’s also the WX-010 Speaker (£159.95) which obviously integrates MusicCast and has Bluetooth streaming capability as well. It’s a compact 2.1 system with a 25W(overall) output and comes in colour choices of black or white. For a step up in performance, and style, Yamaha also announced the ISX-18D which can be placed like a photo or picture and features a 2-way, 2-speaker system with a 2.5 cm (1") tweeter and 5 cm (2") woofer. The woofer unit employs a neodymium magnet and there is a bass reflex port, so even with its small size it should produce solid bass.

Yamaha also has a new stereo MusicCast amp, in the R-N402D, which also includes a DAB tuner. The amp embraces Yamaha’s ‘Traditional Natural Sound’ and has 100 W x 2 power output, supports 5.6MHz DSD Native and 192 kHz/24-bit High Resolution Music (Flac/ WAV/ AIFF) with a high performance 24-bit D/A converter. There’s Bluetooth support, too, in addition to AirPlay and playback via USB devices.

The MusicCast MCR-N470D micro system retails for £449.95 and also supports 192 kHz/24-bit High Resolution Music, in addition to Bluetooth and AirPlay. It outputs 22w per channel stereo and sports both DAB and FM tuners.

Last but by no means least, is the high-end YSP-2700 soundbar with 16 array speakers that can reproduce true 7.1-ch surround sound. It comes with a wireless cubic subwoofer for rich bass, and can decode Dolby TrueHD as well as high resolution music files. There are 3 HDMI 2.0 inputs and 1 out with 4K60p Pass through and HDCP 2.2 compatibility. The YSP-7200 retails for £899.95 and, in case you didn’t guess, is part of the MusicCast family.
