  • Following the recent news of new RX-V83 series AV Receivers as well as the new MusicCast ADD, Yamaha has more news to share but this time for its existing customers.
Later in 2017 (they aren’t yet ready to be more specific), Yamaha will be providing firmware updates to support Dolby Vision, HLG, TIDAL and Deezer for the following models: RX-V681, RX-A860, RX-A1060, RX-A2060, RX-A3060 and CX-A5100.

In case you didn’t know, Dolby Vision is Dolby's end-to-end solution for High Dynamic Range (HDR) video and the technology is present in TVs from LG and Sony as well as Blu-ray players from OPPO and LG. Netflix also supports Dolby Vision so it will also be useful for streaming services.

Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) meanwhile is a backwards compatible form of HDR which is being developed in tandem between the BBC and NHK in Japan. It’s designed to deliver a convenient solution for HDR related content that can work with multiple products and is likely to emerge as the dominant standard in broadcast HDR

TIDAL is a music streaming service offering Hi-Fi quality, including support for MQA hi-res audio, while Deezer offers a similar service with slightly differing features.

Yamaha says it is committed to providing its customers with firmware updates where possible and this set is not the last announcement from Yamaha for 2017.
