by Andy Bassett - Updated:

Seeing the return of a treasured series with beloved characters we hold dear in our hearts is a warm and comforting thing… or "***ing diabolical" as Billy Butcher might say - it all depends on your sensibilities. Want more of the same you can easily re-engage with… or something new and challenging? Well, it’s very much the former for June’s offerings.

Billy’s back on Amazon Prime with The Boys for a third season of outrageous cussing and exploding bodies while Hacks is already making its second season run after the well received show debuted in April.

Disney gets a quick turnaround on both Love Victor S3 and the popular Only Murders in the Building which is back to continue the story of the podcasters in peril. Meanwhile, both Atlanta and The Orville make it to the service after lengthy production hold ups for their respective third series.

If it was Star Wars in May (Obi-Wan) then June must mean Marvel… and making her anticipated entrance is Ms. Marvel herself, which looks at the impact super powers have on life of an ordinary Muslim girl in Jersey.

Finally, on Disney+, Big Hero 6’s bouncy healthcare provider Baymax is back to offer medical attention and wellness advice to the denizens of San Fransokyo in a new six part animated series.

Update 02-Jun-2022: It has been confirmed that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be coming to Disney+ on June 22nd.

Apple TV+ gets Physical with season two of the Rose Byrne starring drama about the rise of the 80’s aerobics scene with all the leg warmers and VHS tapes you could want for a bout of sweaty nostalgia while For All Mankind returns for a third set of episodes charting a revisionist Cold War history which suddenly seems horribly prescient.

As ever, although we’ve tried to be as UK specific as possible, streaming dates can change, content can sometimes be territory specific and shows can even get pulled or added at the very last minute by the streamers themselves as they sort out scheduling or licensing issues.

We’ll keep updating the article as new content gets announced, so please check back.

Hollywood Stargirl is a sequel to the 2020 Disney+ film Stargirl which was based on a YA novel about free-spirited Susan Caraway, a silver-voiced teenager whose simple acts of kindness work magic in the lives of others. This follow up is an original screenplay and sidesteps the second book.

Disney+ and Star Originals:

Ms. Marvel (2022, S1, Ep1. Disney+/MCU Original Superhero Series)

Kamala Khan is a Muslim American teenager growing up in Jersey City. She’s a keen gamer, Captain Marvel fangirl and uses her overactive imagination to create related fanfiction. Yet despite her on-brand geekiness, Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home - that is, until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. After all, life’s better with super powers, right?

Fan favourite Kamala Khan makes the leap from page to TV screen as Ms. Marvel (albeit with a few power tweaks) and forms the basis for the seventh of Disney+’s MCU TV shows. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness recently showed how it pulled in the threads of the WandaVision series and it’s probable that the upcoming The Marvels movie will use this new show in a similar way.

Iman Vellani stars as Kamala with the cast also including Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur and Matt Lintz.

Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017, Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi, PG-13. Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Robert Downey Jr., Marisa Tomei, Zendaya, Dir. Jon Watts) - added 14-Jun-2022
The first of the Tom Holland fronted trilogy of Spider-Man movies sees more definite links to the Marvel Universe.

With the two most recent Jon Watts Spider-Man movies still presumably held up by pay TV windows (No Way Home is coming to Sky Cinema in July), the bulk of the earlier Sony wallcrawler movies come to Disney where they can nestle next to their MCU stablemates.

As of writing, Netflix UK is currently hosting Homecoming, The Amazing Spider-Man, and all of the original trilogy - which will all presumably leave when Disney picks them up (except for Spider-Man 3, even Disney doesn’t seem to want that one!) - but bizarrely Homecoming also lands on Amazon Prime UK this month too, and with Spider-Man 2 and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 also doubling up there free for subscribers, it seems you just can’t escape Spidey’s web these days.

Bedazzled (2000, Comedy, Fantasy, PG-13. Brendan Fraser, Elizabeth Hurley, Frances O'Connor, Miriam Shor, Dir. Harold Ramis) - added 02-Jun-2022
Socially awkward IT worker Elliot Richards is granted seven wishes by the Devil to snare Allison, the girl of his dreams, in exchange for his soul. Along the way Elliot experiments with his other fantasies including being a 7 foot basketball star, a wealthy, powerful man, and a sensitive caring guy. But, each indulgence contains a sting as the Devil must put her own little twist on each of his wishes.

Loose remake of the 1967 film starring Peter Cook and Dudley Moore, itself a comic retelling of the Faust legend.

Bohemian Rhapsody (2018, Music, Drama, True Life, PG-13. Rami Malek, Lucy Boynton, Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy, Joseph Mazzello, Dir. Bryan SInger, Dexter Fletcher) - added 02-Jun-2022

Of course, this quest for clout is not without its problems and the friends often miss the fact that just because you look and act cool, it doesn’t necessarily follow that you actually are cool!

Voice talent involved in the show includes Skyler Gisondo, Jaboukie Young-White, Kiersey Clemons and Peter S. Kim as the best buds and season one sprinkled in cameos from Billy Porter, Rob Delaney, Zoey Deutch, Yvette Nicole Brown and Ben Schwartz, so there’s likely to be plenty more in the sophomore set of adventures.
