Toshiba launches UK4B 4K Alexa enabled TV

Alexa… am I awesome?

by Andy Bassett

Coming in at the affordable end of the TV purchasing spectrum, the UK4B might headline with its Alexa-enabled hands-free operation but it also packs in plenty of other features to help deliver the best possible image and audio experience for the money, including support for Dolby Vision and Atmos, plus Onkyo designed speakers.

Prices start at £329 for the 43-inch UK4B model and move to £399 for the large 58-inch screen version. Sitting in the middle is the 50-inch set for £369.

Voice control of the TV is enabled via an embedded microphone in the TV’s thin bezel and means that Alexa is accessed directly rather than using a separate smart speaker. The UK4B can therefore be used as the heart of a smart home setup allowing you to access the latest news, weather and sports as well as other smart home technology such as lights and cameras (not sure about the 'action' though!). Of course, instantly being able to change channels, search for content and adjust the TV’s volume is where voice control will likely be used most often.

Image quality is supported by Toshiba’s TRU Picture Engine which enhances the viewing experience with smoother images and upscaling of non 4K sources. It does this using three technologies, starting with TRU Micro Dimming which gives the Toshiba UK4B dynamic contrast performance by offering deep blacks, improved contrast, and extra detail across dark and bright scenes. Next is TRU Flow smooth motion which uses powerful MEMC technology to remove judder during fast paced action. Finally, non-4K content undergoes TRU Resolution which upscales content to look its best.

Supplementing the image quality is Dolby Vision which helps deliver brighter colours and deeper blacks for added picture punch.

The UK4B’s Onkyo designed internal speakers support Dolby Audio to enhance the audio experience and help create the sense of immersion.

Toshiba’s Linux-based operating system is employed here and is easy and quick to navigate meaning content is a breeze to find. Apps and streaming services including  Netflix, YouTube and Prime Video are available along with more than 20,000 hours of on-demand content from BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, UKTV Play, CBS Catchup Channels UK and Horror Bites, thanks to Freeview Play integration which also includes 85 live Freeview channels.

Bart Kuijten, Commercial Director at Toshiba UK commented, “With the UK4B, we’re making incredible 4K HDR TV and the latest in connected smart home technology available to everyone. Whether you want a sleek, near frameless design, voice control with Alexa or just simply access to all the latest streaming apps and Freeview Play – we have something for everyone.”

The UK4B 4K HDR TV range is available from Argos priced as follows:

43UK4B63DB: £329
50UK4B63DB: £369
58UK4B63DB: £399
