TCL launches into UK TV Market

World's 3rd largest TV manufacturer sets sights on the UK

  • TCL, the world’s third largest TV manufacturer, has announced that it has officially entered the UK market with its UK debut range now available in retail channels and fully supported.
    Since its creation in China in 1981, innovation has been an integral part of TCL's DNA, says the release. A major player in the global consumer electronics market, TCL is aiming revolutionise the television world through its innovations that are now available to UK consumers.

    Appointed to the role of TCL UK Country Manager in early 2018, Bernie Chen commented;
    “We see the UK market as one of great opportunity for TCL and are delighted to be up and running now, continuing the global success story that is TCL. We believe the UK will appreciate the high quality and technically excellent products as will appreciate the commitment to a unique design aesthetic found in our products.”

    TCL entered the European market by partnering with Thomson in France in 2004 to create the TTE Europe joint venture to sell televisions under the Thomson brand. In 2009, TCL branded products became available across several European territories.

    Globally, the TCL brand continues apace and in 2017 it became the third biggest selling brand in North America. Its LCD TV sales volumes rose by 16.4% to 23.3 million units in 2017 including 15.1 million smart TVs and 5.8 4K TVs representing a year-on-year increase of 42.5% and 46% respectively.

    The TCL range is now fully compliant with terrestrial broadcasting services and applications combining catch-up, on-demand services and live television together in one place with no monthly cost including programming from BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, Demand 5 and UKTV Play alongside 70 TV channels and 15HD channels.

    At the time of the UK launch, the TCL range will consist of the DP608 – 43” and 55” 4K Smart Television with UHD HDR (HDR10+HLG) YouTube/Netflix 4K with an RRP of £499 for the 55-inch. There’s also the DP648 with the same feature set but a different design that wil come 43-, 50-, 55- and 65-inch versions.

    The DP6 range will shortly be joined by higher-end DC748 with integrated JBL sound bar which will come in 55- and 65-inch options.
