System Audio has debuted free-to-download room correction software called Room Service for its WiSA enabled Legend Silverback active speakers.
Available free of charge for the iPhone 6S and above, the Room Service software can correct for room furniture, floors and walls which reflect and colour the sound from a music system before it reaches the listener’s ears.
Each room layout exhibits a point called the Schroeder frequency at which standing wave patterns are most easily heard - this is usually between 250 and 300Hz depending on the room. For owners of System Audio’s Silverback systems, the Room Service software will correct for their room’s response below this point. The company says that the app will also capture high frequency data as well, in order to calculate a smooth alignment of low and high frequency output within the room.
Using correction software of this type therefore means that each individual audio setup in each room can be uniquely optimised to attain the best possible sound. Up until recently correcting room acoustics has been difficult and expensive to achieve, but advances in digital technology now make it possible to compensate for the room by changing the response of the speakers within it from easy, dedicated smartphone applications.
Given the power of modern smartphone CPUs the complex task of mapping and correcting room acoustics can be performed in as little as 60 seconds and only one measurement is necessary. There’s no need for a cloud connection or computer, the app simply saves the measurement to System Audio’s Stereo Hub wireless controller, which then automatically adjusts the output from all connected sources.
According to the press release, when used together, System Audio’s Room Service app and Stereo Hub will allow owners of Silverback wireless speakers the twin convenience of content control over multiple streaming services combined with the opportunity to optimise room acoustics from the same smartphone.
