SVS launches 3000 Micro subwoofer in UK

SVS’s new active dual-driver SVS 3000 Micro sub is designed to deliver substantial bass from a cabinet less than 30cm cubed.

Bringing the bass are innovations from the reference SVS 16-Ultra subwoofers combined with active and opposing 8-inch drivers, an 800W Sledge amplifier and the SVS smartphone app for advanced system tuning.

The fully active dual-opposing 8-inch SVS drivers are connected in parallel to the power amp and thus receive identical amounts of current to ensure controlled and mirrored operation. By firing in unison in opposing directions, the mechanical energy that would normally be transferred to the cabinet is cancelled out and the cabinet remains in situ rather than slowly moving around the room.

An inverted driver surround helps provide maximum excursion with plenty of air movement creating high sound pressure levels.

The Sledge STA-800D2 amplifier incorporated in the SVS 3000 Micro takes innovations from the SVS 16-Ultra subwoofers and combines Class D efficiency and the high current output of discrete MOSFET transistors to deliver 800W RMS and 2,500+W peak power with extremely low distortion.

The power of the Sledge amplifier is leveraged using a 50 MHz Analog Devices Audio DSP with 56-bit filtering. This advanced DSP engine delivers in-room tuning, optimised frequency response curves and powerful controls to ensure the SVS 3000 Micro can slot effortlessly into most room and system scenarios.

Control of the many parameters and custom presets is courtesy of the the SVS subwoofer DSP smartphone app for Apple, Android and Amazon devices. This allows access to volume, multiple DSP functions and custom presets for one-touch tuning optimised for music, movies and gaming. Moreover, users can customise crossover frequencies, a three-band parametric EQ, polarity, room gain, sub identification, as well as operate standby and factory resetting from their favourite listening position.  And with the bidirectional Bluetooth connectivity, adjustments are shown in real time on both the app and rear panel subwoofer interface, even with no line of sight.

As well as the technical elements of the internal hardware and software, the enclosure itself benefits from extra thick MDF side baffles and rigid internal bracing to support the active dual-driver assembly. This helps create an acoustically inert environment that reduces colouration or resonance from the cabinet. SVS also made a design decision to omit the passive radiator in the dual-driver design deployed by many other micro subwoofers 'because of its reputation for bloated, one-note bass'.

In overcoming the challenges of creating a micro-sized subwoofer with its attendant thermal and energy management requirements, SVS has brought together advanced dual-driver topology, large reserves of power amplification, sophisticated DSP control and rigid cabinet construction.

Commenting Gary Yacoubian, SVS President said, “Home theatre and Hi-Fi lovers have been waiting for a lifestyle-friendly subwoofer that can fit anywhere and actually deliver a reference listening experience. I’m so proud of what our engineering team has accomplished: a micro subwoofer worthy of the SVS name.”

The SVS 3000 Micro has a frequency response of 23Hz to 240Hz +/-3 dB and measures 278 x 297 x 271 mm (HxWxD).

It will be available in the UK from March 2021 in Piano Gloss Black or Piano Gloss White at a SRP of £899.00.
