The first teaser trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has now gone live. The release is obviously timed to tie-in with the arrival of Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens on Blu-ray, which hit US stores on Tuesday and will go on sale in the UK on the 18th of April. All we can say is that the trailer looks stunning and we really like the sight of AT-ATs, old school Star Destroyers and the Rebel Base on Yavin, as well as seeing Genevieve O'Reilly reprise her role as Mon Mothma from Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. If the film can deliver those kinds of images and that feeling of nostalgia whilst remaining exciting and new, then Lucasfilm could be on to a real winner.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set just before Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope and tells the story of the rebels who steal the plans to the original Death Star. Aside from that basic premise, other details have been kept under wraps but the film was written by Chris Weitz, is directed by Gareth Edwards (Monsters, Godzilla) and stars Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Diego Luna, Alan Tudyk, Forest Whitaker and Donnie Yen. We're excited at the thought of a new Star Wars film this Christmas but does anyone else think the title is a bit clumsy, surely Star Wars: Rogue One sounds better?
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens in the UK on the 16th of December.
