Kenny Baker, who played R2-D2 in six Star Wars films as well as starring in the Time Bandits and Flash Gordon, has died at age 83.
The actor, who was 3ft 8in tall, shot to fame in 1977 when he first played R2-D2 alongside his droid counterpart C-3PO in the break-out Sci-Fi classic. He went on to reprise the role in a further five Star Wars episodes. It is reported that he had been suffering from a long illness before passing away earlier today.
