Sony wants you to ‘live life loud’ with its latest range of wireless speakers, the SRS-XP700, SRS-XP500 and SRS-XG500, featuring karaoke connectivity, sound optimisation and Bluetooth compatibility.
With most of us looking forward to more social (and responsible) interactions as we head towards a summer of easing restrictions, Sony has announced the X-Series of speakers to help provide a suitable soundtrack to your activities.
With a mix of features that includes optimising sound quality, lighting, connectivity, portability and durability, the SRS-XP700, SRS-XP500 and SRS-XG500 provide enough choice to suit most requirements when music is needed quickly and conveniently where a power supply might not be immediately available.
The range topping SRS-XP700 can deliver a big omnidirectional sound for your party, while the SRS-XP500 provides a powerful sound in a more affordable package and the XG500’s durable water-repellent mesh will keep the speaker dry and your music blasting during poolside sessions.
All three models use Sony’s innovative X-Balanced Speaker Units which are also found on the company’s X85J, X81J and X80J 4K LED TV ranges for 2021. These units feature a non-circular diaphragm which gives more sound pressure and less distortion by maximising the area of the speaker.
The XP700 archives its all encompassing omnidirectional sound with the aid of High-efficiency Tweeters, with three at the front - though only two will work at any given time - and one placed at the rear. The XP500 and XG500 have two front High-efficiency tweeters while the XG500 also features passive radiators for a clearer bass sound. Moreover, the XP700 and XP500 can be positioned either horizontally or vertically and a sensor on the XP700 will optimise the sound for that layout.
Speaking of bass, the Mega Bass option is available across the range and is always on hand to dial up the low end when needed. There’s also Live Sound mode (available via the Sony Music Center App) which helps recreate that unique atmosphere of the live experience.
Key to any portable speaker’s success is its battery life and with up to 30 hours playback available on the XG500, there’s enough for most social sessions. Quick charging means 10 minutes gives you 3 hours of playback on the XG500 and XP700, and 80 minutes on the XP500 and Battery Care Mode stops your speaker reaching 100% charge in order to increase the lifespan of the battery.
Portability is made easy for the three speakers with comfortable handles and, once outside, the IPX4 water resistant rating of the XP700 and XP500 means they’ll be fine in a few drops of rain while the IP66 water resistance and dust proofing rating of the XG500 ensures pool or beach use is worry free.
All-new, built-in ambient lighting helps create atmosphere for your gathering and connecting to devices is easy with the included Bluetooth compatibility. Should your music of choice be stored on a USB storage device, the included USB port will allow access, and plugging in a compatible smartphone which is low on battery will charge it directly.
Finally, for those of a disposition to sing and dance the night away, the speakers come with microphone and guitar inputs. All three speakers also have Party Connect which allows the connection up to 100 compatible speakers, which then sync to the music and lights.
The new line-up is compatible with both Sony Music Center and Fiestable apps to help select playlists, cue the next song, change lighting patterns and sound modes plus there's control of karaoke functions including Voice Changer, Echo and DJ control to add sound effects.
So, whether it’s an impromptu meeting with a few friends in the park, a barbeque in the back garden or a karaoke session in the garage, Sony’s X-Series of speakers can help provide the backing tracks.
All three X-Series wireless speakers are available from June 2021 at the following approximate prices:
SRS-XP700 - £449 / €500
SRS-XP500 - £319 / €369
SRS-XG500 - £379 / €429
