Sony has unveiled a new gaming gear brand, with its Inzone range booting up with a 27-inch monitor and three gaming headsets.
The official press release tags Inzone as being for PC gamers, and certainly there are features that will appeal to that market, including the purpose-built Inzone Hub PC software system to offer control and customisation of the range. However, there’s also the obvious lead into the ‘Perfect for PlayStation’ branding that tees up some handy features for PS5 owners (including the console’s Control Centre) – but there’s not too much to prevent other gamers, or indeed anyone else who might need a new monitor or headset, from finding a good use for these new models.
First up is the 27-inch M9 4K gaming monitor. It comes with Full Array Local Dimming and HDR support with Auto HDR Tone Mapping and DisplayHDR 600 delivering a peak brightness of 600 nits. It also boasts of vivid and vibrant colours, with over 95% coverage of the DCI-P3 spectrum. Among the other gamer-friendly features you’ll find with help from its HDMI 2.1 ports are a 144Hz refresh rate (with VRR), plus an IPS display with 1ms Grey-to-Grey (GtG) response speeds.
There’s also an FPS Game Picture Mode to optimise the brightness and a Black Equalizer to highlight details in the darker corners. The M9 also comes with an Auto Genre Picture Mode if you want to use your PC or console to swap between games and films, and an Auto KVM Switch if you wanted to swap between two PCs from the same set-up. In addition to the 4K M9, a 240Hz Full HD option is to be added in the form of the M3 monitor, which is due for “Winter 2022”.
The new Inzone headsets are led by the wireless H9, with the similarly wireless H7 and a very much wired H3 offering slightly scaled down, and suitably cheaper, options. All three models do come with Sony’s own 360 Spatial Sound for Gaming to reproduce that surround awareness that can be crucial in picking out nearby in-game enemies, with a supporting app to further tailor the tech to suit your needs. The headsets also feature ducts on their housing to optimise low-frequency sounds for added bass support.
The H9 comes with noise cancelling microphones, along with the Dual Noise Sensor Technology as seen in Sony's 1000X series, and also its Ambient Sound Mode. The H7 doesn’t get those, but it does have the best battery life (40 hours, against the H9’s 32), with both wireless models having a 10-minute quick-charge option for up to an hour’s gaming.
The initial Sony Inzone range is due to roll out in July, with further information and pre-orders available now via the Sony website and the company’s authorised dealers. The Inzone M9 monitor is priced at £999, with the M3 to follow in the winter with the price still be announced. The Inzone H9 gaming headset is priced at £269, with the H7 at £199, and the H3 costing £89. There’s certainly plenty on offer for gamers to consider, even if we can’t stop reading it as ‘Sony Inzony’…
