From today, Apple's streaming service Apple TV+ plus Apple TV channels and more will be available to Sony customers in Europe as the Apple TV App comes to the XH90 series of LED LCD TVs.
From today, Sony Europe will be rolling out the software update to owners of the XH90 series which comes in 55-, 65-, 75- and 85-inch screen sizes.
The XH90 already features AirPlay 2 and HomeKit for interoperability with Apple’s enormous ecosystem and now the Apple TV App brings together all the ways to watch shows and movies in one place.
First and foremost, it brings access to Apple’s video subscription service, Apple TV+ which offers original shows, movies and documentaries from some of the world’s most well known storytellers. Content so far has included The Morning Show, See, Defending Jacob, Ted Lasso, The Banker, Boys State and Beastie Boys Story along with the Tom Hanks starring movie Greyhound.
The Apple TV app also allows subscription to Apple TV channels so content can be watched, ad-free and on demand directly via the app. In addition, Family Sharing means that up to six household members can share subscriptions to Apple TV channels using their personal Apple ID and password.
Owners of the XH90 TVs will now be able to browse more than 100,000 movies and TV shows, including titles available in 4K HDR and with Dolby Atmos and choose to buy or rent any that take their fancy. The app will also be able to make personalised and curated suggestions for future content options based on your choices.
Moreover, the Apple TV app will launch on select Sony 2018 TV models and most 2019 and 2020 models by the end of the year.
If you’re the owner of a Sony XH90 TV, we’d love to hear whether you can now access the Apple TV App and if you’ve decided to subscribe to any of the channels or services. Let us know in the comment thread.
