Sony Launch New Budget UBP-X500 4K Blu-ray Player
Sony has today announced a new budget 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player for the UK market, which retails for £200.
The UBP-X500 will play 4K Ultra HD Blu-rays, Blu-ray, DVD, SACD, CD and most digital, high resolution audio and video formats. Audio file support includes DSD, FLAC, WAV, AAC, ALAC, and MP3 with video supporting XVID, WMV, AVCHD, MPEG2 and MPEG 4.

Sony also claim it has superb upscaling capabilities to enhance viewing of DVD and Blu-ray on your 4K display. Immersive audio is also supported by the player.

Sony also claim the X500 has HDR playback support but according to the press release there is no Dolby Vision or HDR10+ support at this price point, so it’s HDR10 only.

We will line-up the player for review as soon as Sony can send one over.

The Sony UBP-X500 is available now and priced at £200 and you can read about the full specification on the Sony website.
