Sony announce Full HD HDR TVs
Sony UK has today announced two new models, the WF66 and RF45, that will join its Full HD (1080p) line-up in 2018.
Full HD?!? We hear you scorn but the interesting twist here is that both new models are High Dynamic Range capable, thus offering the benefits of HDR in less than Ultra HD resolution.
That’s not as crazy as it night sound as, at distances too far or with screen sizes too small, or even a combination of both, the jump in resolution may not be visible. On the other hand, wider colour spaces and greater contrast should still be visible.
The caveat here is that Ultra HD Blu-rays will not play in HDR at below Ultra HD resolutions but, as Sony points out, the WF66 and RF45 should be great for enjoying games on PlayStation4 and PlayStation4 Pro consoles, in HDR quality whilst the WF66 can also access HDR content through popular screening apps – namely YouTube and Netflix, at this time.
Both the WF66 and RF45 use Sony’s X-Reality PRO processor that uses the company’s unique reality creation database algorithm whether you are viewing a TV broadcasts, DVD, Blu-ray Disc, Internet video service or digital photos, and ClearAudio+ which automatically adjusts sound settings for an enhanced listening experience.
In addition they come supplied with a stand designed to keep cables from set-top boxes or Blu-ray players out of sight.
The RF45 is available in 43-inches, while the WF66 has both a 43- and 50-inch option.
