  • Sony has announced a new range of affordable, BRAVIA 4K Ultra HD HDR TVs with the XE70 Series.
The XE70 Series spans four screen sizes – to be confirmed but they definitely include 49- and 65-inch versions - and boast some of Sony’s proprietary technologies, including X-Reality PRO image processing where individual parts of each scene are analysed and matched with an image database that independently addresses texture, contrast, colour and edges to attempt to produce a more realistic image. There’s also Motionflow XR motion processing technology, which has long been a strong suit of the Sony stable.

Update 05/05/2017: The screen sizes are confirmed as 43-, 49-, 55- and 65-inches across three slightly varying models, the XE7002, XE7003 and XE7073. The spec sheets are virtually identical, save that the 7073 gets 400Hz MotionFlow backlight 'blinking', while the 02 and 03 et 100Hz and 200Hz, respectively.

Sony has also equipped the XE70 4K HDR TV with multiple exclusive sound technologies including ClearAudio+ which creates a faux immersive surround experience and Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE), which attempts to restore the missing detail from low-res audio. There’s also Cinematic S-Force Front Surround which adjusts volume, time lag, and sound wave spectrum – using only left and right speaker channels – to emulate three-dimensional sound fields

Built-in Wi-Fi enables online access to 4K streaming from the likes of Netflix or Amazon, video-sharing sites like YouTube and access to on-demand TV, as well as browse the Internet via the built-in Opera browser. The Series also allow you to stream entertainment from a wireless home network and the Internet. The TV has three USB ports located to the side which can be used to play digital content such as music, video clips or photos in a range of codecs from any USB stick.

The XE70 Series has the usual Sony elegant minimalist design with a narrow frame featuring an aluminium finish and a cable management solution .

The Sony XE70 4K HDR TV series will be available in Europe from July, 2017. For more information see:
