Sony and Marvel agree Spider-Man Deal
There have been rumours flying around since the commercial failure of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and the Sony hack but at last it's official.
Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have announced a deal that will bring Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The relative failure of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has left Sony in the difficult position of having to re-boot the character for the second time in four years and as such they have hit on the obvious idea of doing it as part of an upcoming Marvel movie before making a stand-alone Spidey film afterwards. Presumably this means Sony have abandoned their planned Sinister Six movie and will also need to re-cast the role of Spider-Man, which is unfortunate for Andrew Garfield.

Under the terms of the deal the new Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel film, probably Captain America: Civil War, which makes sense. Sony Pictures will then release a stand-alone Spider-Man movie, on July 28, 2017, in a film that will be co-produced by Kevin Feige and the Marvel team that have been so incredibly successful to date. The two studios will collaborate on a new creative direction for the web-slinger; although Sony Pictures will continue to finance, distribute, have final creative control over and, most importantly, own the Spider-Man films.
Every once in a while a studio makes the right decision, so thank you Sony for seeing sense.
In addition Marvel Studios will explore ways of including MCU characters in any future stand-alone Spider-Man movies. Bob Iger, Chairman and CEO, The Walt Disney Company said: "Spider-Man is one of Marvel's great characters, beloved around the world. We're thrilled to work with Sony Pictures to bring the iconic web-slinger into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which opens up fantastic new opportunities for storytelling and franchise building."

"We always want to collaborate with the best and most successful filmmakers to grow our franchises and develop our characters. Marvel, Kevin Feige and Amy, who helped orchestrate this deal, are the perfect team to help produce the next chapter of Spider-Man," said Michael Lynton, Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment. "This is the right decision for the franchise, for our business, for Marvel, and for the fans."

"Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios share a love for the characters in the Spider-Man universe and have a long, successful history of working together. This new level of collaboration is the perfect way to take Peter Parker's story into the future," added Doug Belgrad, president, Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group.

"I am thrilled to team with my friends at Sony Pictures along with Amy Pascal to produce the next Spider-Man movie," said Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. "Amy has been deeply involved in the realization on film of one of the world’s most beloved characters. Marvel's involvement will hopefully deliver the creative continuity and authenticity that fans demand from the MCU. I am equally excited for the opportunity to have Spider-Man appear in the MCU, something which both we at Marvel, and fans alike, have been looking forward to for years."
It looks as though Spider-Man will appear in the upcoming Captain American: Civil War.
This is fantastic news and makes the upcoming Captain America: Civil War even more exciting than it already was; The upcoming MCU movies have just got more anticipated - if that's possible - but it also means that Marvel Studios have re-arranged their release schedule to accommodate the news. So Spider-Man will appear in Captain America: Civil War, which comes out on the 29th of April 2016, which will be followed by Marvel's Doctor Strange on the 4th of November 2016 and Sony Picture's stand-alone Spider-Man movie that will be released on the 28th of July 2017.

Since that was the original release date for the third Thor movie, Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok will now be released on the 3rd of November 2017. The following year, Marvel’s Black Panther will arrive in cinemas on the 6th of July 2018, Marvel’s Captain Marvel on the 2nd of November 2018 and, finally, Marvel’s Inhumans will now debut in cinema on the 12th of July 2019. The previously announced Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will still be opening on the 28th of April 2017; whilst Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 keep their original release dates of the 4th of May 2018 and the 3rd of May 2019 respectively.
