Sony 4K 2016 HDR LCD TVs Revealed

Slimmer, brighter, better connected

by Mark Hodgkinson Jan 6, 2016

  • Sony has unveiled its flagship Ultra HD HDR LCD TV models for 2016
The XBR X930D is available in 55- and 65-inch sizes and there's also the X940D which comes in at 75 inches. Each is HDR compatible and features X-tended Dynamic Range PRO to produce better contrast, enhancing HDR and non-HDR content by boosting and dimming the backlight levels precisely for each zone of the screen with unique backlighting algorithm.

There’s also new Slim Backlight Drive technology, which uses a unique grid array local dimming backlighting structure to distribute the backlight source more precisely to each specific zone of the screen through a slim display, although that’s for the X930D only.

Thers’s also expanded colour with TRILUMINOS Display - i.e. quantum dot - which has been further enhanced for colour accuracy. 4K X-Reality PRO uses a unique algorithm from a reality creation database for TV broadcasting, DVD, Blu-ray Disc, Internet video and digital still photos to improve scaling and interpolation.

The 2016 Sony TVs continue to support Google’s Android TV operating system, making it easy to stream video, allowing them to function as a gaming device and Google Cast allows you to cast content from mobile devices.

The TVs, naturally feature an Ultra-thin design and a floating style which is virtually frameless and mounts flush to any wall.

Availability is quoted as early 2016
