Italian Hi-Fi company Sonus faber has announced two new additions to its recently launched Lumina range of loudspeakers - the compact Lumina II standmount and the flagship floorstanding Lumina V.
Expanding the company’s Lumina range of speakers launched last year, the Lumina II and Lumina V display the same handmade Italian craftsmanship, design and affordability also on offer from the Lumina I standmount, the Lumina III floorstander and the Lumina Center I centre speaker.
Able to deliver greater power for larger spaces, the Lumina II and Lumina V will suit both stereo and multichannel audio systems, covering a wide range of music, gaming and cinematic applications while still supplying the same ‘voice of Sonus faber’ as their stablemates.
The larger cabinet of the Lumina II allows the new standmount addition to the range to sport a 150mm driver (compared to the 120mm of the Lumina I) but is still compact enough to make them suitable for a bookcase or shelving unit based stereo system or as the rear channels in a home cinema setup.
Meanwhile, the flagship Lumina V floorstanding speaker benefits from key design elements such as a lute-shaped mid/high internal chamber and the hybrid IFF crossover.
The chamber is a feature pioneered by Sonus faber and introduced in the 90s, becoming a signature component for the brand. This chamber reduces standing waves while simultaneously maximising structural rigidity and acoustic performance of the midrange.
The ‘Hybrid IFF – Paracross Solution’ mid/high crossover network combines Interactive Fusion Filtering, first introduced in the Maxima Amator, with the Paracross Topology, where reactive components such as capacitors and inductors/coils are placed on the negative rail of the circuitry. Sonus faber says this reduces the drivers’ back EMF (Electro Motive Force), allowing them 'to operate in a maximally interconnected and organic way', while lowering the crossover’s sensitivity to radio frequencies, further improving sound quality.
The housings of the Lumina II and Lumina V feature a multilayer wood front baffle available in three finishes, walnut, wengè with maple inlays, and piano black. The cabinets are then finished in black leather in a nod to Sonus faber’s more upmarket collections. Additionally, the Lumina speakers are fully complementary to the Gravis subwoofer I, II and III models which feature matching finishes and materials.
The Sonus faber Lumina II (standmount) is priced at £999 and the Lumina V (floorstander) at £2,499. Sonus faber is distributed in the UK by Fine Sounds UK.
