Skyworth plans new OLED and mini LED TVs for North America in 2022

Skyworth expands presence and model choice in North America

by Andy Bassett

China’s Skyworth recently returned to CES to showcase its current W82 and S82 OLED TV offerings along with announcing a range of new TVs destined for the North American market.

Whilst not attracting the same level of attention as the announcements coming from the likes of the Korean TV giants Samsung, LG or even its own domestic competitors Hisense and TCL, Chinese TV developer Skyworth used CES 2022 as an opportunity to ready the launch of new LCD and OLED TVs for the North American market during 2022.

The new TVs consist of 11 models covering five new LCD series which will include a premium mini LED model, 120Hz panels, bezel-less designs, HDR10, HLG and Dolby Atmos support. The Google TV Smart OS will newly feature in some models and there will also be yet-to-be-confirmed OLED models joining the existing XC9300 and XC9000 Series 4K OLED models which were released in the US during 2021.

According to the press release, the new LCD TVs planned for the North America market in 2022 consist of:

  • At the top, the 4K UHD Mini-LED QLED UD8500 Series offered in 65″ and 75″ screen sizes will feature a sleek bezel-less design, 120Hz Refresh Rate, Dolby IQ, HDR10 & HLG HDR, Dolby Atmos, and an ATSC 3.0 Tuner.
  • The UD8000 Series is a 4K QLED UHD TV offered in bezel-less 65″ and 75″ screen sizes, a 60Hz refresh rate panel, HDR10 and HLG HDR, and Dolby Audio.
  • The 4K UHD UD7500 Series, with 86″ super screen size, will feature a premium designed metal cabinet and a higher performance 120Hz refresh rate panel.
  • The upgraded 4K UHD UD7200G Series, “G” for Google TV, is offered in 50″, 55″, 65″ and 75″ screen sizes, and has a bezel-less design with a 60Hz refresh rate panel.
  • The entry-level TD7300 Series designed for smaller viewing spaces is offered in 32″ and 40″ screen sizes.

CES 2022 afforded Skyworth the opportunity to showcase the Skyworth W82 which was a CES 2022 Innovation Award Honoree. Introduced in 2021, the W82 is the world's first mass-produced transformable OLED TV, which is based on the company’s own OMB (OLED Basic Module) Transform technology. This enables the the W82 to switch between being a curved and flat display at the touch of a button. The TV features Dolby Vision, HDR10, the Skyworth AI 4K Picture Quality Engine and the Skyworth Audio Drum.

Meanwhile the Skyworth S82, also revealed last year, is a 4K 120Hz OLED TV boasting industry-leading colour accuracy, with a similar spec to the W82 but without the ‘transforming’ abilities.

Two new models joined the W82 and S82 OLED TVs at the product showcase. These were the UD7200, which is a 4K UHD TV offered in 50-, 55- and 65-inch screen sizes, and the Skyworth UD6200, which is a 4K UHD TV featuring a big screen of 75-inch. Both products feature a bezel-less design, Chameleon Extreme 2.0, HDR10 and HLG format, Dolby Audio and DTS, and will be upgraded to Google TV in 2022. Whether any of these displayed TVs are bound for North America has yet to be revealed.

John Homlish, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, SKYWORTH USA, said, “Moving forward into 2022, we are fully committed to expanding our presence in the US and Canada and introducing big-screen LCD and OLED Smart TV’s, enabling even more consumers to enjoy the stunning audio-visual experiences we have to offer.”

To better support this expansion, Skyworth plans to move its manufacturing for the North America market from China to Mexico in 2022 in order to reduce delivery times and safeguard the supply chain against external shocks.
