Sky has revealed its plans to add Dolby Atmos sound to its Sky Q platform in a report presented to its investors.
The revelation comes in the same report that revealed details of Sky Q launching without the need of a satellite dish and will bring the service audio parity with BT TV’s rival offering. The ‘Innovation Pipeline’ graphic also details other features coming to Sky Q, most of which we already knew about.
Sky Q will also introduce restart features for both Entertainment and Sport channels, later on, meaning you’ll not miss out if you’re unable to tune-in as the programming starts. The report also confirms the Sky Q Silver box will get level with the new Virgin V6 box in being able to record six shows while watching a seventh – if that unlikely scenario ever crops up.

Sky also confirmed its plans to launch Sky Q in Italy as well as Austria and Germany, further down the line. Further personalisation plans were also released covering accommodation for personalised – presumably meaning multi-user per box – favourite channels, on-demand and movie content.
Other items in the pipeline include voice command, to join voice search, later on as well as two more mysterious references to ‘New Ways to Buy & Keep on Sky Store,’ and something called ‘Autoplay at Credit’ which may or may not relate to binge-watching box-sets.
By the looks of the pipeline, Dolby Atmos is some way off but it’s good to hear (no pun intended) that immersive audio is incoming. Unsurprisingly there’s no mention of HDR, however…
