Samsung’s Unpacked event might always be headlined by the latest Galaxy smart phone lineup but there’s usually a decent support act and this time the Galaxy Buds Pro took to the stage as the warm up act.
Sidestepping the kidney bean like aesthetic of the Galaxy Buds Live, Samsung’s latest true wireless earbuds adopt a more traditional look and are all about sound quality.
By redesigning and stacking the chip used in each bud, the Samsung engineers were able to free up enough space for a 2-way speaker design so that both a 6.5mm tweeter and an 11mm woofer are included.
Listeners will also benefit from 360 audio immersion which uses intelligent motion sensors and Dolby head tracking so the Galaxy Buds Pro can detect head movements and recalibrate the audio to ensure the listener remains in the correct orientation no matter which way the head turns.
The Galaxy Buds Pro Active Noise Cancellation uses an outer mic on each bud to detect ambient noise and an inner mic to monitor the noise inside the ear. The ‘anti-noise’ signal generated removes up to 99 percent of background noise in real time.
The Buds Pro also offer Intelligent Active Noise Control which detects when the wearer starts speaking and automatically reduces the ANC to let ambient sound through. This means that as soon as you start a conversation, you can hear the outside world without any required interaction on your part and the levels of ANC can be adjusted to suit your preference.
Premium call quality is ensured by beamforming which funnels the voice toward the receiving mic to minimise external noise and amplify the speaker. In addition, the interference generated by wind is reduced by a combination of an outer mesh and inner wind chamber arrangement plus software analysis to separate wind and voice audio patterns.
Rated at IPX7, the Galaxy Buds Pro are not in the slightest bit bothered by sweat or rain, making them ideal companions for workouts or outdoor use.
The tweaked shape gives the Buds Pro a firm, comfortable fit within the ear canal and a small 2mm vent means there is enough airflow to prevent a ‘bunged up’ feeling despite a full seal with your ear.
The battery provides up to 18 hours of playback with the ANC turned on thanks to the Qi wireless recharging case and a quick 5 minute blast will give you an hour’s battery boost if you ever do run low on charge.
The Buds Pro will cost £219 and come in three finishes shared with the new Galaxy S21 5G phone: Phantom Violet, Phantom Silver and Phantom Black and will be available for pre ordering from 15th Jan with shipping on 29th Jan
