Pro-Ject has unveiled its latest turntable, with the E1 set to offer a more affordable vinyl solution with prices starting from £269.
Described as a plug-and-play entry-level turntable, the E1 is based on the company’s popular T1 design, with a few components traded out against its higher-end options to keep the price down – certainly when compared to the likes of the Debut Pro or the recently-announced X8 models. The E1 uses a belt-driven design, boasting a cool wooden chassis with a reworked aluminium tonearm, along with a new anti-resonant ABS polymer platter, damped DC motor, and the usual 33/45 RPM controller.
The E1 is the first in what appears to be a new E-Line series, “aiming to deliver a great sound experience on a limited budget” for beginners and experienced enthusiasts alike. Despite the lower-cost price tag, Pro-Ject states that “the extensive development process has ensured that there has been no compromise in the sound performance.” However, those looking for an integrated, switchable MM phono stage and/or wireless Bluetooth streaming will need to pay a little extra for the E1 Phono and E1 BT models respectively.
All of the products are hand-made in Europe, with the Austrian analogue Hi-Fi specialist describing the E1 as “a product made for music lovers, by music lovers. In an age where the market is awash with turntables, Pro-Ject Audio System are seeking to remain true to their audiophile roots, while listening to what customers want. The E1 is therefore effortlessly simple to set-up and produces a highly engaging, accessible sound that really makes your records sing.”
The Pro-Ject E1 turntable is available now, priced at £269. You can upgrade to the E1 Phono, with a built-in phono stage for £299, with added Bluetooth 5.0 in the E1 BT for the complete package at £369. All models are available in a high gloss black, high gloss white, or a walnut finish. You can find out more on these, and the rest of the company’s turntable line up on its website.
