Pro-Ject announce Maia S2 integrated amplifier
Everyone has to start somewhere
Pro-Ject Audio Systems are expanding their Box Design range of Hi-Fi electronics in early 2019, reintroducing popular models with updated designs and technical characteristics. The Maia S2 brings new aesthetics to Pro-Ject’s popular Maia integrated amplifier. The Maia S2, (Maia is an acronym for My Audiophile Integrated Amplifier) builds on many years in the micro Hi-Fi realm and brings together a DAC, a phono stage, a wireless receiver, a headphone amplifier and an integrated amplifier all into one compact, affordable chassis.
Ideal for starters with ambitious home audio systems, the Maia S2 can accommodate audio sources such as turntables, CD players, network music players, computers and wireless devices, courtesy of its nine inputs and aptX Bluetooth implementation.
The high-grade DAC chip is capable of handling up to 24-bit / 192kHz digital audio files (note: the optical inputs are limited to 24-bit / 96kHz), so the Maia S2 can easily handle most common digital audio formats. Additionally, when the supplied Bluetooth antenna is connected, Maia S2 is also capable of streaming high-quality audio.
More traditional Hi-Fi sources are easily catered for too. The built-in Moving Magnet phono stage is based upon Pro-Ject’s iconic Phono Box designs and there are also three analogue Line-level inputs – one mini-jack input and two unbalanced RCA pairs – so radios, CD players and Tape decks can also be easily connected.
Internally, the Maia S2 benefits from Pro-Ject’s extensive knowledge of premium audio and use of low-noise circuitry, featuring the coveted Flying Mole amplifier modules, plus an improved layout compared to its predecessor. So, when matched with a set of good-quality speakers Maia S2 produces a sound signature that is surprisingly analogue in its feel.
For when using speakers isn’t an option, a 6.3mm headphone socket is available, and control is simple whether using the supplied remote control or the front-mounted buttons. The Maia S2’s all-aluminium casework matches all the other devices in the S2 range to create a cohesive overall aesthetic.
