Polk launches Reserve Series speakers

US speaker manufacturer Polk has announced its latest speaker range, the Reserve Series, designed for a wide range of applications using premium trickle down technologies at an accessible price point.

The newly announced Reserve Series consists of nine speaker models which leverage design features from the flagship Legend Series as well as new technologies to bring IMAX Enhanced and Hi-Res Audio Certification and Dolby Atmos and DTS:X support to music, movie and game lovers everywhere.

The full range includes the R100 and R200 bookshelf speakers, the R500, R600 and R700 floor standing models, three centre channels - the R300 for most AV cabinets, the slimline/wall mountable R350 at only 5.5-inches tall and the full sized R400 -  and finally, the R900 height module for Dolby Atmos systems. The R900 is Polk’s first height module and can be placed on the floorstanding speakers or wall-mounted, and features a toggle switch which tunes the module to whichever placement is chosen, providing maximum versatility. The whole range incorporates matching transducers and consistent voicing to allow full flexibility with regards to configurations.

In an effort to bring flagship levels of performance to a moderately priced package, Polk’s engineers transposed the Legend’s proprietary Pinnacle Tweeter and Turbine Cone Midrange driver technologies along with brand new PowerPort and X-Port bass-management and resonance control initiatives within newly created, rigid, internally braced cabinets.

The 1-inch, Hi-Res certified Pinnacle Ring Radiator Tweeter is the result of many years of development and features a finely tuned waveguide, which improves the dispersion of high frequency energy to ensure a broad sweet spot, while the critically damped rear-chamber helps defeat unwanted resonances thus delivering ultra-clear, crisp highs without unwanted colouration or distortion.

The Turbine Cone Midrange driver combines Polk’s proprietary foam core driver design with moulded Turbine geometry, to increase stiffness and damping without adding mass. This results in a smooth, detailed midrange across the entire bandwidth of the driver.

Besides benefiting from the Legend’s innovations, the Reserve Series sees the debut of the patent pending X-Port technology which is found on all vented models of the series. The X-Port uses a set of closed-pipe absorbers precisely tuned to eliminate unwanted cabinet and port resonances, resulting in a balanced, clean mid-bass for added detail and dynamics.

Meanwhile, the R600 and R700 floor standing models feature the new Power Port 2.0 design. This is a patent pending loudspeaker port and uses a port tube base redesigned in aluminium which sits closer to the floor. The Power Port 2.0 combines the new X-Port and Enhanced Power Port designs to extend bass frequencies more deeply and at higher output levels than traditional ported speakers.

Finally, the R700 tower model uses advanced point-to-point bracing with new Cabinet Resonance Control technology (CRC) which eliminates panel resonances for enhanced detail and clarity.

Frank Sterns, president of Polk Audio, commented, “The Reserve Series use the same custom-made transducers originally developed for Polk’s award-winning Legend Series loudspeakers.” He went on, “Featuring the proprietary Pinnacle Tweeter, Turbine Cone midrange and Polk’s latest bass-management and resonance control technologies—PowerPort® and X-Port—the Reserve Series delivers against Polk Audio’s signature quality sound at an approachable price.”

Available in matte black and matte white finishes*, all Reserve Series products are currently available for purchase at PolkAudio.com and other authorised resellers and include a 5-year warranty.
