Philips launches Fidelio L3 ANC headphones

The newly relaunched Fidelio range from Philips increases its premium audio membership with the L3 over ear ANC headphones.

The Philips Fidelio brand of audio product was recently relaunched with the arrival of the X3 headphones in stores. Products signified by this badge feature bespoke components and advanced technologies combined with the best of European Design, materials and build quality to offer a premium experience to the user.

Also acting as hallmarks of the range are wide support for high-quality audio formats and voice control platforms including Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, as well as a dedicated Philips Sound App to guarantee simple installation and operation.

The new Fidelio L3 headphones which now join the expanding range, leverage high quality audio performance through the inclusion of large 40mm bespoke drivers which feature a unique three-layer construction using a TPU (damping material) layer sandwiched between 2 layers of a special polymer called PEEK, found more often in very high-end headphones.

Further optimisation of the driver within the rigid, inert driver enclosure has taken place and careful selection of memory foam and soft, leather covered ear cup cushions helps ensure comfort as well as adding to the passive noise reduction too.

Moving from passive to active noise reduction in the L3 sees a four-mic Hybrid ANC system designed to offer the maximum level of noise cancellation without changing the timing and musicality of the headphone’s playback, which remains the same whether the system was on or off.

Access to music comes via Bluetooth 5.0 which uses the Qualcom aptX HD codec and the L3 also offers Hi-Res Audio playback via a supplied, detachable audio cable.

Control over music and calls is available via simple touch controls with swipe, tap and press actions, and a Push-to-talk facility allows hands-free, voice assistance via Google Assistant compatibility. Taking and making calls is enhanced by the use of an extra built-in mic dedicated to removing background sounds to ensure conversations have clear audio.

When out and about, a long battery life is important to get you through your daily activities and the L3 offers 35 hours playtime with ANC deactivated or 30 hours with it continually on - more than enough for a full day. And even then, there’s the option of a very quick charge, with a 15 minutes charge-time giving an extra six-hours of use via the supplied USB-C cable.

As far as the look of the L3 goes, the circular ear cups and open aluminium holding frame which featured on the X3, are also present and represent a specific Philips Fidelio design identity. Comfort during long listening sessions is aided by Muirhead sustainable leather and a soft leather covered inner cushion on the headband.
