Philips FB1 soundbar will use Fidelio wireless platform

The first audio products to use the new wireless platform will be the Fidelio FB1 soundbar, Fidelio FW1 subwoofer and the Fidelio FS1 satellite speaker, all due later in 2022.

Based on proprietary DTS Play-Fi technology, the Philips Fidelio wireless AV platform aims to bring interoperability and connectedness to a range of Fidelio audio products steeped in the company’s pillars of sound quality, design language and user experience.

As a central tenet, ease of use is provided via the app controlled platform which enables easy wireless connection and seamless high-resolution streaming between compatible TVs, mobile devices, sound bars and speakers located throughout the home in a variety of in-room and multi-room setups. The speakers can ‘detect’ when they have been connected to one another and automatically adjust to ensure the best possible acoustic performance is always delivered.

Under Philips’ Home Sound Made Easy initiative, Philips is previewing three new models starting with the Fidelio FB1 wireless soundbar, the Fidelio FW1 wireless subwoofer and the Fidelio FS1 bookshelf sized wireless speaker, all due to be available in the second half of 2022.

Fidelio FB1 soundbar

The Fidelio FB1 soundbar is a 7.1.2 Dolby Atmos soundbar finished with an acoustically transparent metal mesh to match the look of Philips’ TVs and features 15 drivers and 310W (RMS) of power. The FB1 is divided into independent enclosures for its LCR sections to minimise crosstalk and ensure clarity.

Each of the LCR channels also features a pair of midrange drivers mounted either side of a tweeter in a D’Appolito arrangement for better integration of the mid and high range sound.

Two side-firing drivers are mounted, one at each end of the bar, to further extend sound into the room and to create a convincing surround sound effect. Further extension is delivered by two dedicated Dolby Atmos elevation drivers mounted on top of the bar either side of a dedicated bass enclosure housing two subwoofers.

The FB1 also features IMAX Enhanced certification.

The FW1 features a large down-firing 8-inch woofer driver supplemented by two side-mounted, large passive radiators working ‘back-to-back’ and there’s a 200W (RMS) amplifier to help deliver the low end rumble that really makes a movie soundtrack come alive. There’s a mix of Muirhead leather and wood finishes with a brushed aluminium top to blend in with the FB1 sound bar but the FW1 can also be used as a standalone subwoofer too. And for added punch, it’s also easy enough to connect a second FW1 to the FB1.

Fidelio FS1 wireless speaker

The FS1 wireless speaker is a versatile, three-way design allowing it to be used as either a single unit, a stereo pair or as satellite speakers in a 7.1.4 system with the FB1 and FW1.

The specification includes a front firing tweeter, an angled up-firing mid-range unit and a down firing woofer in its own dedicated part of the enclosure. Bass performance is further reinforced by the addition of two passive radiators and the power output of 60W (RMS) allows the FS1 to perform in mid to larger size rooms.

The design of the FS1 matches the aesthetics of the rest of the Fidelio AV system but it can just as easily be used as an elegant standalone speaker. For a unique immersive AV experience, the FS1 also includes built-in LED lights designed to work and synchronise with Philips’ Ambilight TVs – extending the Ambilight effect throughout the whole of the room.

The app based platform gives consumers multiple system options - from using individual products to a stereo pair, or from a soundbar and sub to full blown room filling multi-speaker AV systems. Each speaker can be used as an audio building block to a more comprehensive system.
