World’s first THX Certified Dominus brand

by Andy Bassett

US speaker company Perlisten Audio brings its proprietary audio technologies and THX Dominus certification to UK music and home cinema enthusiasts with its Signature ‘S’ and ‘R’ speakers and D-Series subwoofers.

Formed in 2016 in Wisconsin U.S., Perlisten Audio has used the last five years and the wide ranging skills, experience and global audio contacts of its founding members to create transducers, electronics and software entirely in-house. Nothing is sourced ‘off-the-shelf' or contract-manufactured outside the company’s production facilities and this allows Perlisten to have complete control over performance and QC processes.

Among Perlisten Audio’s innovations is its Directivity Pattern Control (DPC) array which consists of a waveguided 28mm Beryllium dome tweeter in a single unit alongside twin 28mm ‘Textreme’ Poly Carbon mid-range diaphragms. This helps generate accurate, natural dispersion and coherence from 1kHz-30kHz.

The DPC array is deployed in the company’s Signature ‘S’ range of loudspeakers which comprises of the S7 4-way Tower, a matching S7 Centre model, the 3-way stand-mounting S5 Monitor, a 3-way S4s angled surround/height/LCR design, and a bookshelf version, the S4b. Each model features the array accompanied by 180mm Textreme woofers in configurations appropriate to the system size.

Positioned below the 'S' Series speakers is the Reference ‘R’ Series which features similar configurations but with DPC arrays of three 26mm silk domes and twin 165mm HFP pulp woofers, supported by 165mm HFP woofers. The 'R' Series speakers come in a high gloss black finish and the 'S' Series are available in high gloss ebony and high gloss black or white (S4s in gloss black/white only).

Perlisten’s speakers are underpinned by four active subwoofers incorporating proprietary amplification, 48-bit DSP and 32-bit processing, a 2.4-inch LCD colour touchscreen display and proprietary App control. The flagship DS215s adopt twin 380mm (15-inch) carbon fibre woofers in a push-pull configuration, driven by a 3kW Perlisten amplifier, while the compact D12s uses a 300mm (12-inch) carbon fibre driver and 1.5kW amplifier. The D-Series subs are finished in piano black.

Underlining the high end performance credentials afforded by the speaker lineup, Perlisten Audio is the first brand in the world to have received the latest THX Dominus Certification. The accreditation is designed to bridge the gap between large home theatre speakers and those used in movie houses worldwide. Suitable for rooms up to 184 cubic metres and up to a 6m viewing distance, THX Certified Dominus speakers are guaranteed to reproduce very high SPLs with low distortion.
