Pebble Time Kickstarter closes with over $20 million in funding

Pebble calls time on crowd-funding

by hodg100
The Pebble Time Kickstarter campaign has officially come to a close and it would be fair to call it a bit of a success.
Since pitching their new Pebble Time and Pebble Time Steel smartwatches, the company has raised over $20 million dollars in funding ($20,338,986 to be exact), making it easily the most successful Kickstarter campaign ever. The initial goal set by Pebble was a measly $500,000.

The original Pebble project, launched in 2012, was at the time the most successful crowd-funded project but this latest venture easily surpasses that. Question marks over whether this was really just a means by which Pebble has just used Kickstarter to build up some hype remain, however, considering the company now employs more than a hundred people and had already amassed nearly $26 million in outside funding before going to Kickstarter.

Early bird backers snagged the Time for $159, while those joining later on paid $179. It will be $199 through retail channels when it ships in May and will come in three colours: white, black, or red.

Who's getting one?
