Panasonic reveals SC-HTB490 slim soundbar

Panasonic’s new slim and compact SC-HTB490 soundbar delivers powerful sound and won't get in the way of your viewing.

Designed for use with its latest range of Panasonic’s LED TVs with their flexible pedestal feet that raise up to allow soundbars to slot under the TV’s lower bezel without obstructing the image, the HTB490 brings key features from the company’s larger soundbar models.

The HTB490 soundbar comes with a wireless subwoofer and also includes Bluetooth for easy streaming from smart devices and HDMI (ARC) for quick connection to TVs.

The  soundbar itself delivers 160W of power from its two full-range, forward-facing 4.5x12cm speaker units, and the overall output is doubled when combined with that of the accompanying subwoofer. Connection between the two units is via Bluetooth and the reduced size of the sub’s new circuit board means there’s more internal space for sound to reverberate, adding to the epic feel. Also contributing to the low end are two bass reflex ports, adjacent to the full-range speakers in the soundbar.

The built-in Bluetooth means its easy to stream from compatible audio sources to the HTB490 while a USB port means music files can be played directly through the soundbar. The HDMI (ARC) socket means easy single cable connection to TVs and an optical in allows older TVs to connect too.

The overall design of the SC-HTB490 has evolved with the latest TVs in mind, so its compact form blends in, allowing for uninterrupted viewing and keeping rooms neat and tidy. For those that want to wall mount, the HTB490 can be fixed directly under TVs using the supplied screws, without leaving a large gap.

Masaaki Suna, General Manager Home AV Group, Panasonic Marketing Europe, explains, “With HTB490 we’ve achieved the perfect mix of form and function. That is, an elegant slim soundbar with the power to help people feel more involved with films and TV.” They further added, “Subwoofers don’t need to stand out to give an outstanding performance. HTB490’s can be tucked away, out of sight – coming into play when the movie soundtrack and effects demand. Adding an extra sensation to the experience.”

The Panasonic SC-HTB490 soundbar is priced at £349 and will be available TBC from authorised Panasonic retailers.
