Oppo PM-3 Planar Magnetic Headphones released
MSRP: £350.00
Hot-ish on the heels of rolling out its HA-2 portable headphone amplifier, OPPO Digital, has released the PM-3 Classic Closed-Back Planar Magnetic Headphones, a considerably more affordable alternative to their PM-1’s.
The OPPO PM-3 Classic boasts audiophile performance, noise isolation and portability into a pair of lightweight planar magnetic headphones. Weighing just over 10 oz., the PM-3 Classic is the world’s lightest closed-back planar magnetic headphone design. The closed-back nature of the PM-3 Classic provides isolation from the outside world, blocking out the surrounding noise while avoiding sound leakage from the headphones.

The OPPO PM-3 Classic utilises planar magnetic drivers that are derived from the company’s range-topping PM-1 headphones. Technological breakthroughs achieved during the PM-1’s development, such as the 7-layer double-side voice coil diaphragm design and FEM-optimized neodymium magnet system, have enabled OPPO to reduce the weight of the planar magnetic drivers while maintaining excellent sound quality and high sensitivity.

In the PM-3 Classic’s planar magnetic driver, a very thin and light diaphragm, which is driven in a symmetric pull-push manner, generates sound and the magnetic system and conductor patterns have been optimised for maximum sensitivity and consistency. This allows the diaphragm to generate very stable and linear piston-like vibrations, ensuring phase coherence and high-resolution performance with minimal distortion.

The PM-3 Classic driver’s smaller size and high sensitivity overcome the shortcomings of traditional planar magnetic technology, such as being difficult to drive and heavy weight. This all-new 55mm diameter circular driver is especially suitable for the lightweight close-back design of the PM-3 Classic, allowing it to maintain the very natural and smooth sound signature of the PM-1 and tuned to have deep, tight bass and a touch of excitement.

The PM-3 comes with four cables – one long cable for home use and three portable cables (iOS device compatibility / Android device compatibility / straight cable) for use with mobile devices/music players.

Available across Europe now, the PM-3 Classic is finished in black or white and has a UK SRP price of £349.00.

We have a set in for review, as it happens, so look out for that coming real soon!
