NOW TV Boost adds Full HD and 5.1 audio

It’s long been an affordable way to tap into the newest TV shows and movies usually shown on Sky but that affordability came at the cost of reduced picture quality. That situation is now no longer the case with NOW TV Boost.

For some, the pay off of only receiving an HD Ready resolution of 720p versus the cost-saving and increased accessibility of premium content was well worth while, though other viewers were less keen on the trade-off.

However, following a pause in testing a few months back, NOW TV has finally launched NOW TV Boost which introduces the features many viewers have been eating for.

Full HD streaming at 1080p will now be available, except for in a couple of specific circumstances, and 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound audio is supported. Further benefits include the ability to simultaneously stream to a third screen/device over and above the current two. Plus the Main Event and Premier League Sky Sports channels are available at 50 frames per second (except on LG TV).

For an additional £3 per month consumers will be able to experience the following in Full HD:

Live Channels:
All Sky Cinema Pass channels
All Entertainment Pass channels (except Fox and Gold, this is not available)
All Sky Sports Pass channels
Kids Pass - Boomerang, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and Nick Jr (though Cartoonito and Nicktoons are not supported in HD so will not be supported).

On Demand (At launch):
All On Demand movies
All On Demand box sets
Most Entertainment Pass content
Limited Kids Pass content

However, there will be no 1080p Hayu Pass content and the mobile only Sky Sports Mobile Pass will remain capped at 720p.

NOW TV Boost is supported by the NOW TV Smart Stick, Any NOW TV Box except the white box, the Roku Express or Roku Streaming Stick, Samsung TVs (2015 or later), LG WebOS TVs and PlayStation 4. A minimum internet speed of 12Mbps is recommended if you wish to stream in 1080p. Older NOW TV boxes that are restricted to 720p will not support NOW TV Boost.

Now TV's managing director, Marina Storti said, "Now TV Boost is an important step in offering our customers a higher quality viewing experience."

She went on to add, "It’s launching ahead of the Christmas season so you can enjoy the best and biggest blockbusters and box sets of the year, together with live coverage of your favourite sports in Full HD with surround sound."

NOW TV Boost is available If you’ve got an Entertainment, Sky Cinema or Kids Pass for an extra monthly fee of £3 which will renew on a monthly basis along with the active pass. Like the active passes, you can cancel at any time.

Note that you won’t be able to get NOW TV Boost if you’ve only got a Sky Sports Mobile Month Pass, or if you’re billed for your Passes by a third party such as iTunes or Vodafone.

Are there any readers out there that use NOW TV and who will take advantage of this additional service? If so, why not let everyone know how you got one in the discussion thread?
