NEWS: Nintendo Switch most successful hardware launch in Europe & Americas
Gaming NewsNintendo Europe has stated the Nintendo Switch has sold more units, in its launch weekend, than any other Nintendo hardware release in its history.
Moreover, launch title, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has eclipsed Wii Sports as the biggest ever selling Day 1 game, although that one was bundled with the Wii console which, let’s not forget, had stock supply issues in the UK at launch. Still, it’s fair reward for what is a truly epic game which has scored a pretty incredible 98% Metacritic average across 68 reviews.
Nintendo PR is keen to point out that all this has been achieved during what is, normally, a quiet time for the games industry.
For the record, the Switch sold around 80,000 units in the UK during its debut weekend, double the amount sold by the Wii U and despite some concerns in the press over dead pixels. .
The Switch has also outsold previous consoles, in its first two days on sale, in ‘The Americas’ – not the US specifically – according to Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime. Meanwhile, back in Japan, the Switch has outpaced the Wii U with a very precise 330,637 shifted in its first two days.
