New Series of X-Files Confirmed
After a flurry of internet rumours it's been officially confirmed that everyone's favourite FBI double act is returning to our TV screens.
Thirteen years after The X-Files ended it's nine-season run and seven years after the disappointing second movie, Mulder and Scully are back. Twentieth Century Fox has confirmed that creator Chris Carter and actors David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are returning in a six-episode event series. These latest episodes of The X-Files will be produced by Fox and Carter's Ten Thirteen Productions and will begin shooting this summer.

Plot details are a closely guarded secret but hopefully this mini-series will tie-up all the loose ends relating the the series' alien mythology and overall story arc. The second film - The X-Files: I Want To Believe was more a 'monster-of-the-week' story and was poorly received on its initial release. For those that have been living under a rock for the last twenty years, The X-Files premiered in 1993 and centred on a pair of FBI agents who investigated unsolved cases for which there was only a paranormal explanation.

The show was a huge hit, both commercially and critically, winning sixteen Primetime Emmys and becoming one of the longest-running Sci-Fi shows on US TV. Aside from Chris Carter, many of the shows alumni have gone on to further success with Vince Gilligan creating Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, and Frank Spotnitz currently running The Man In The High Castle for Amazon. It's not know if either of them will also be involved in the new series.

The X-Files is just the latest TV series to be resurrected, with 24 recently having a successful mini-series revival and Arrested Development getting a new lease of life on Netflix. More recently NBC announced they were reviving Heroes and Showtime announced that David Lynch and Mark Frost are working on a new series of Twin Peaks. All this is great news and should hopefully see the original nine seasons of The X-Files ultimately released on Blu-ray. In the meantime, are there any other TV shows that you'd like to see brought back? Let us know in the thread below.
