Netflix now streaming HDR content

Marco Polo only, for now., but more to follow

by Mark Hodgkinson Apr 13, 2016

  • Netflix has begun its output of HDR content with the first season of Marco Polo now available in (hopefully) stunning high dynamic range.
We’ve already seen Amazon begin its HDR transmissions and it was only a matter of time before Netflix joined the party as most of the mid to high-end TVs released in 2015 will have support for Ultra HD HDR content.

It is apparently already available on some Sony TVs and we’ll do some digging to see which others have HDR streaming via the app. Unusually, for Netflix, there has been no great fanfare about the arrival but a spokesperson has confirmed the roll-out is on.

"We just started streaming in HDR, with Marco Polo season one now available," said Netflix spokesman.

"We will continue to expand the offering."

It will certainly be interesting to compare how compressed HDR looks to the, now released, 4K discs and we definitely want to hear from readers if it is available on your TV yet.
